It's a grit-off! It's a grit-off!

I’m sure you’ve all seen a walk-off, if not in person, then in the best video exposé of the fashion industry of all time . . . Zoolander.  But how many of you have ever seen a grit-off?  Or even heard of a grit-off?  Well, ladies and gentlemen, I've got one for you.   Food Rockz Man brings you cutting-edge culinary news.

Monday, at an MTV/Myspace presidential candidates forum, Senator Barack Obama took advantage of the absence of up-and-coming presidential contender Stephen Colbert to question Colbert’s grit-eating capacity and to challenge him to a grit-off.  A young man attending the forum asked Obama what impact Colbert would have on the election.  Obama replied: “I didn’t realize he was from South Carolina
.  I can’t picture Stephen Colbert eatin’ grits.  So I’ve laid out that challenge to him.”  To which the young man replied, “A grit-off?”  Obama confirmed, “A grit-off!”

Last night Colbert accepted the challenge, referring to his adversary as “Barack Osama Bin Laden Obama” and asking, “What kind of grits can’t you picture me eating?  Stone ground yellow grits?  . . .  White grits?  . . .  How about whole kernel hominy?  You want a grit-off?  You got it!”  (You can find the clip of Obama's challenge and Colbert's acceptance
here, under the heading "Obama's Challenge.")

And I'm sitting there on my couch thinking, oh no he didn't . . . whole kernel hominy?!?!  Man-o-man, this could get ugly.  I just hope it doesn’t get as ugly as the walk-off between Derek and Hansel!  You can count on me for full on-going coverage of this battle between presidential hopefuls.  And, in the meantime, you might want to
read-up on grits.  You wanna be in the know about such a vital campaign issue, don’t you?

Update:  On Thursday, Nov.1, the South Carolina Democractic Party rejected Colbert's application to be on the party's presidential primary election ballot.  It looks like Colbert's candidacy is over.  (You can find the clip of Colbert receiving the bad news here, under the heading "Is Stephen on the Ballot?")  I'm not certain, but this may mean that the grit-off is off.  I'll keep you posted.

Obama was raised in Oahu, did community organizing in Chicago, and had some schooling in Boston....none of which are known for their grits. So, Colbert gets my vote....but that's the only vote that sucka gets from me.
