The peaches are coming! The peaches are coming!

It's been a very busy work week, so I haven't done a whole lot of cooking.  But I'm looking forward to a bunch of time in my kitchenette this weekend and promise to have some interesting food posts next week.  Although I didn't cook much this week, I did spend a couple of early mornings watering the 7th Street Garden and brought my camera along.  Here are a few of the photos I took.  The peaches are coming!  They're still hard, but they'll soon be ripe . . . a bit ahead of schedule because of the unusually hot temps we've been having in the DC area.  The local bounty is increasing by the week.  What's going on at your local farmers markets and in your gardens?

(As an aside, moments ago I discovered that TasteSpotting . . . my favorite online food art gallery, which has brought tens of thousands of viewers/readers to my blog . . . is dead.  What a shame.  Damn lawyers!  RIP.)

Hey FRM, digging those peaches. Can you snag some for a bbq the first week of July? I want to try a cinnamon skewered grilled peach dish I saw on tv. Mmmm, yummy. Not sure of the date yet, will let you know. PK

I'll likely be leaving town on July 3 for a long weekend, but if you have your bbq before that, I'll be there with peaches.

Don't worry it won't be that July 4th weekend. It'll be immediately before or immediately after.

    Nooooooo!!!!!!!!!
    Tastespotting gone?!
Do you know why (more than what they say on their site)?
And/or do you know of any other sites like it?
    Thanks!

Nope . . . I don't know anything beyond the little note that's now on the homepage.  And I don't know of any other sites like it.  The strange thing is that the same folks run a couple of similar sites for other subject matter, e.g., NOTCOT and NOTCOUTURE, which appear to be unaffected by the legal problems plaguing TasteSpotting.  I'd appreciate a heads-up if you learn anything about the situation or find any other similar sites.

I know... I immediately went to their other sites to check them out as well, and they were all fine! I think it strange, as well, unless it has something to do with recipes being posted on the participating blogs that are not done in an appropriate manner? i.e. not complying with relevant copyright laws? Horrible news, regardless. Will let you know if I find anything else similar, though!

Apparently, there are several theories. One of which is a user named "GingerbreadGirl03" or something like that would snag other people's pics and post them linking back to her site. I do recall seeing her moniker on the site often, so that could be it. There is another site called Recipes 2 Share that is allegedly working on a replacement that will be up and running in a few days. Not sure if it's going to be any good or how it will operate, but considering how much Tastespotting helped my fledgling blog, I toasted it earlier tonight with friends.

Recipes2share.com has in fact created a food photography gallery on their site. It's new and will take a while to get to the level of Tastespotting, but I plan on encouraging it as much as I can.

Thanks for the heads-up.  Unfortunately, I just tried to access the site, but every time I click a link on the homepage, including the link to the gallery and the link to register as a site user, I get the following message: "
We apologise [sic] but for security reasons your access to recipes2share have been blocked."

        Hmmmmmmmmmmm . . . I know I'm a shady fella and all . . . but I shouldn't be banned from a food photo gallery . . . that's just not right.  Apparently, my reputation precedes me.

Uhmmm, yeah I guess it does. I mean, I know you're a shady fella but I hadn't realized the word spread so quickly. Try the full link below and if it doesn't work, not sure what to tell ya...try a month of cleansing perhaps?

Forget all that and just go to Food Gawker...their layout and format is almost exactly as Tastespotting. And thanks for the tip on the magnification filters.

Hi guys, yes there was an issue with over-active security which has now been fixed - tried the above link & no problems.
We did our best in a short time frame and presented a gallery which complimented our in-site facility, our mission being an online foodie magazine, not a sole gallery site nor are we competing to be. We are having photo blog submissions so please browse, add to them and join in the fun!
