Melograno

My brother, sister-in-law, a friend and I kicked off the long holiday weekend last Wednesday night with a sidewalk table dinner at one of their favorite neighborhood bistros—Melograno in Philadelphia's Rittenhouse Square neighborhood (2201 Spruce Street, sorry, the restaurant seemingly doesn't have a Web site . . . and it's soon moving to a new location).  Simply put, Melograno serves up excellent Italian food and reasonable prices.  The starters are mostly under $10; the pasta entrĂ©es are around $15; and the meat and fish entrĂ©es are in the $17-$23 range.  As an added bonus, Melograno is one of Philly's many BYOB joints—so bring your wine with you and enjoy the $avings.  The food is simple, fresh and well-prepared.  Roll your cursor over the photos to read a description of the dishes.  The restaurant's soon-to-be new location is reportedly much, much larger than the present spot.  I hope they can continue delivering the same level of quality at the increased volume.  I'll be back to check it out on a future Philly visit.
