I'm a thirty-something guy living, eating and cooking for fun in Washington, DC. I'll be abusing ellipses and writing regularly about my appreciation for locally grown/produced food and
the chefs/home cooks who use it . . . and other delicious food too. All photos on the blog were taken by yours truly, unless otherwise noted. Out of respect for the creators and for copyright
reasons, I don't reprint the published recipes of others. The recipes detailed here are mine and those of family and friends who give me permission to blog them.
I can be reached at foodrockzman(at)foodrockz.com.

Check out New York Times story about the First Family planting a garden on the White House Lawn for the first time since Eleanor Roosevelt's World War II victory garden.
What's with the *s?
In an effort to hightlight the abundance of local foodstuffs, all ingredients grown/raised/produced in the Chesapeake Bay region are marked with an asterisk(*). I'm sure there's great food grown/raised/produced in your region. Get out there to a farmers market and show your regional producers some love.
Dupont Circle; Sundays, 10AM-1PM (1500 block of 20th Street NW)
Here's a map
to even more farmers markets in the area. For more information, check out the FRESHFARM Markets Web site.
Healthy Affordable Food for All in DC
Check out the DC Food Finder, an interactive map of food resources in DC, including information regarding food banks, food stamps and WIC, community gardens, farmers markets, etc. This is a project of Healthy Affordable Food for All (HAFA).

I did the photo shoot right after brunch, so I was too full to eat any buds or flowers. But DC's about to explode with cherry blossoms, so I'll have plenty of opportunity to eat some in the coming weeks. They're not poisonous, are they? Reply to this

The leaves of the tree are definitely poisonous, don't know about the blossoms. Maybe have your snack near a local ER? Reply to this
