Roasted Bone Marrow: Take Two

Photo of roasted beef bone marrow with toasted baguette and a spread of olive oil, oregano and capers 02/10/08

After a failed marrow bone roasting adventure last weekend, I finally found some roasting-appropriate beef marrow bones yesterday at Eastern Market's Union Meat Company . . . less than a buck a pound.  I kept the preparation simple.  I roasted the bones naked at 350 degrees F for 30 minutes, toasted some store-bought baguette and made a spread from fresh oregano, olive oil, capers and kosher salt.  After three weeks of searching, I finally got my fix . . . definitely worth the bike ride across town to score the bones.  I was in meat-butter heaven!

    ooooohh.....I want a bite!!!!

bone marrow is so sexy. In fact, I think I'm going to stop by the butcher and see if I can get me some bones for a V-day dinner.

Thanks, Julie.  I bought the spoons yesterday at a little specialty coffee and cooking shop here in DC called Coffee & the Works.  They're made by Bodum and I'm not sure what their intended purpose is, but they were great for marrow.  I think they may be discontinued though . . . the closest thing on the Bodum USA Web site is the "Columbia apertif fork/spoon" . . . which is shaped the same way, but has a funky fork at one end.  Coffee & the Works has a couple more in stock . . . at least two as of yesterday . . . and they're only $3.99.  Would you like me to send you a couple?  I'm happy to, so don't be shy and say "no" if you'd like to add a couple to your arsenal!

THANK YOU for round two! I thought the last attempted looked beautiful, and was disappointed with you that it didn't pan out. This looks sublime and really has me on a bent now, to try it. Especially when it's so economical. Bookmarked!

Montsouris on 21st and P has the best bone marrow in the city. They sell it as an appetizer and cut it the long way, which makes it even easier to get to (thus better).
